Started working with CAD systems in 1987: using Autocad 2.0 and Cadkey on PCs, and Applicon’s Bravo on an enterprise server. Later, had a part-time role conducting pre-sale demonstrations and post-sale training courses and workshops on diverse engineering software, for a wide range of clients. Gained significant hands-on experience on numerous CAD systems and their applications across various industries, in design projects using…

  • AutoCAD Mechanical
  • Inventor
  • SolidWorks
  • CATIA
  • CADDS
  • SolidEdge
  • Creo (Pro/E)
  • NX
  • BRL
  • Alibre
  • DraftSight
  • TurboCAD
  • Cimatron
  • FreeCAD
  • VariCAD

Just as an accomplished author need not be a fast typist, I am not a CAD draft-person, but a professional design engineer who uses CAD to communicate ideas and complex concepts.

Started working with CAE analysis and simulation tools in 1988: using Algor on PCs, and ANSYS on an enterprise server. Had several courses on the theory, mathematics, and programming for such techniques. Performed per-sale demonstrations and post-sale training for clients using various software. Over the years, had projects using several other FEA, FDA, and SPH software to analyse solid, fluid, heat, and electromagnetic problems:

Linear Simulation

  • Algor
  • COSMOS
  • COMSOL
  • CATIA
  • Creo
  • NX

Non-linear Analysis

  • ANSYS
  • Abaqus
  • Adina
  • xxTRAN (MSC, NEi)
  • Femap

Dynamic Analysis

  • Autodyn
  • LS-Dyna

Also, other simulation techniques, e.g. Cellular Automata, Molecular Dynamics, Monte Carlo, and non-linear optimisation.

Having a strong foundation in basic engineering sciences enables me to judge when a numerical technique goes fundamentally wrong, and to devise techniques to ensure that the simulation is physically sound.

Started piping systems design, using Autocad and Autopipe, in 1991, and later used CADDS, Autoplant, and Microstation for plant design. I designed complex piping systems for clients like ABB and Caltex; including Power Plant design, Oil Storage and Processing, Water Treatment plant, Steam lines, and Oil Pipelines. This included P&I Diagrams, 3D piping layouts, piping racks and supports, and Isometrics for workshop pre-fabrication.

My main expertise is Piping Stress Analysis, in compliance with standard codes such as ASME B31.x, and using CAESAR II stress analysis software. A deep knowledge of solid mechanics enables me to perform calculations and designs that are more efficient than code specifications.
